President Tinubu has instructed for the prompt disbursement of ASUU’s 4-month salary that was previously held back during the previous Buhari administration.

President Bola Tinubu has issued an order for the release of four out of the eight months’ withheld salaries to Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) members.

This Nigerian news outlet has been informed that Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, made this announcement in a statement released on Friday.

The statement conveys: “The President has granted a partial exemption from the ‘No Work, No Pay’ policy that was imposed on the striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) after their eight-month industrial action, which commenced on February 14, 2022, and concluded on October 17, 2022.”

Given his commitment to alleviating the challenges encountered during the execution of vital economic reforms in the nation and his acknowledgment of the faithful adherence to the terms established in the productive negotiations between ASUU and the Federal Government of Nigeria.

President Bola Tinubu has ordered a unique and final exemption from the “No Work, No Pay” policy for ASUU. This exemption will enable the previously striking ASUU members to receive four (4) months of the withheld eight-month salary accruals from the period of their extended industrial action.

The President has instructed that the waiver is conditional on the Federal Ministry of Education and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment obtaining a Document of Understanding (DoU), affirming that this special waiver, granted by the President, will be the final one extended to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and all other unions in the education sector.
