On Tuesday, Nigerian activist Omoyele Sowore appeared at the Federal High Court in Abuja, facing a treasonable felony charge brought against him by the Federal Government.

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) donned an ash-colored suit and arrived at the court premises around 8:45 am, accompanied by a dedicated group of supporters who gathered in solidarity.

Also in attendance at the court were members of the human rights organization, Amnesty International, dressed in black T-shirts to express their support for the activist.

The organization had classified Sowore as a prisoner of conscience due to his unjust imprisonment and unfair trials, all stemming from his exercise of the right to freedom of expression.

It’s worth noting that on July 5, 2023, Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja had adjourned the case due to the absence of the co-defendant, Olawale Bakare, marking a significant development in the ongoing court proceedings.”

The presidential candidate of AAC is anticipated to enter his plea.
