Sixteen travelers died in a tragic accident on Enugu road, burnt beyond recognition.

Six travelers lost their lives in a tragic motor accident at Ekwegbe along Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road in Enugu state on Tuesday, April 30.

The accident involved an 18-seater white Toyota Hummer bus with a Bauchi State commercial registration number DAS 215 XA, marked “Masha Allah.” The bus, reportedly speeding, lost control and crashed into the fence of Maduka University before bursting into flames, leaving the fourteen males and two females onboard burned beyond recognition.

Authorities conducted a preliminary investigation, revealing the vehicle’s cargo of edible vegetables and other items.

Although the passengers’ point of departure and final destination remain unknown, police recovered the items with the help of the Igbo-Etiti Police Division.

DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the police spokesperson, confirmed the incident. Commissioner of Police CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, accompanied by Federal Road Safety Corps officials, visited the scene to assess the situation. Uzuegbu expressed condolences to the families, friends, and associates of the deceased, describing the accident as a tragic event.
