Shettima leads FG delegation to AFCON final

Vice President Kashim Shettima is set to lead a Federal Government delegation to the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) final on Sunday, as the Super Eagles face hosts, Côte d’Ivoire, in their quest for continental glory.

According to a statement released on Saturday by Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Shettima, who represented President Bola Tinubu at the semi-finals last week, will return to Abidjan for the title decider.

The statement highlighted the President’s recognition of football’s unifying power and the crucial role played by the Super Eagles in fostering national pride and unity.

It emphasized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s belief that Vice President Shettima’s presence at the finals, alongside the delegation, underscores the government’s steadfast support for the team and its commitment to their success.

The statement emphasizes the Federal Government’s appeal to all Nigerians, regardless of their location, to unite behind the Super Eagles, lend their voices in encouragement, and foster a surge of national pride to propel the team towards victory.

After defeating South Africa’s Bafana Bafana 4-2 in penalties, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have secured their place in the AFCON final. Nigeria is now poised to contend for a fourth AFCON trophy, with their last victory dating back to 2013.
