Unical Dean and lawyer granted bail amid sexual harassment trial

On Friday, February 9, a Federal High Court in Abuja granted bail to Prof.

Cyril Ndifon, the suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar (UNICAL).

The court also extended bail to his lawyer, Sunny Anyanwu, who stood trial alongside him under charges brought forth by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Ndifon secured bail amounting to N250 million with two sureties, while Anyanwu was granted bail set at N50 million, also with two sureties.

The charges against them involve alleged sexual harassment and an attempt to obstruct justice, as amended to four counts.

Justice James Omotoso, presiding over the case, stipulated conditions for the bail, including an undertaking from the defendants not to interfere with the proceedings, a commitment to attend trial, and an agreement not to cause delays.

The judge subsequently adjourned the hearing to Monday, February 12, for further proceedings.
