The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer, Shem Obafiaye, known for the widely circulated ‘Oga At The Top’ comment, discussed the effects of the remark in an interview with Channels TV on Tuesday.

Obafiaye rose to prominence in 2013 after making the comment during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

When questioned about the NSCDC’s website, he responded,“The website is… excuse me… wait… it can only be made known by my Oga at the top,” pointing skywards.

Ten years later, Obafiaye returned to the same show to share the story behind the experience that sparked memes, catchy tunes, and the creation of ‘Oga At The Top’ T-shirts.

During the Tuesday interview, when questioned about not wearing the NSCDC uniform, he explained, “I am retired.”

Talking about how his famous statement affected things, he mentioned, “I didn’t have any problem with the press. What happened came the way it came, and so that one didn’t really stop my work, I still continued my work.

“The name became the great slogan globally, ‘Oga At The Top’, ‘Oga At The Top’ all the same. To me, it has not impacted my life negatively, though from some quarters they projected it negatively.”
