Police Officer Nelson Abuante sadly ended his own life after accidentally shooting and causing the death of his colleague, Inspector Monday Gbaramana, while attempting to arrest a suspect in Rivers State.

On Sunday afternoon, December 17, the unfortunate incident occurred in Nyogor-Lueku, situated in the Khana Local Government Area of the state. The two officers, affiliated with the Taabaa Division, were sent to apprehend Mr. Akere Akpobari following accusations made against him by his mother.


Tensions heightened when Mr. Akere resisted arrest, leading the two inspectors to employ force in the attempt to apprehend him.

According, “In the course of the altercation, Inspector Nelson Abuante mistakenly shot Gbaramana and he sustained serious injuries. So, Abuante and Akere’s mother tried to rush the injured officer to the hospital.”

In a fight, Inspector Nelson accidentally shot Inspector Monday, causing serious injuries. They tried to take him to the hospital, but their car ran out of fuel, and sadly, Inspector Monday passed away. Devastated, Inspector Nelson took his own life.

Immediately Abuante discovered that his colleague had died, he carried his gun and shot himself to death,” the source added.

The remains of Inspector Monday Gbaramana and Inspector Nelson Abuante have been placed in the mortuary for examination.

Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, verified the incident and assured the public of the police’s dedication to investigating the details surrounding this tragic event.

“Yes, the incident happened. We are investigating to unravel what really happened,” Iringe-Koko stated.
