Edo Police successfully rescued abducted priest


Edo State Police operatives successfully rescued Reverend Canon Tony Mukoro from the clutches of suspected kidnappers in the region. SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, in Benin, disclosing that a cache of weapons was recovered from the suspects, including an AK-47 rifle, expended shells, pump action guns, live cartridges, a cap, and a bag.

The abduction occurred in Isihor community, Ovia North-East Local Government Area, where Mukoro was taken while traveling home in his Toyota Highlander.

The Divisional Police Office in Ugbowo, Benin, received a report of the incident and swiftly acted, intercepting the vehicle and engaging the kidnappers in a firefight. During the exchange, the assailants fled, allowing Mukoro to be rescued unharmed.

Efforts are currently underway to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects to face justice
