Power station collapse; causes blackout in Abuja and Kogi

Several areas within Abuja and Kogi State, served by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), are currently facing power outages due to technical issues.

The AEDC released a statement on Tuesday, March 20, informing its customers in locations such as Zamani Estate, Abacha Road Mararaba, Ruga Juli, and other parts of Abuja about a technical fault on the 33kv feeder k6 from AT9 Karu Transmission Station, managed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

According to the statement, “The areas affected in Abuja are: Zamani Estate, Abacha Road Mararaba, Ruga Juli, Old Karu Road, Glory Estate, and environs.”

AEDC assured customers that TCN’s maintenance crew was diligently working to restore electricity supply to these areas promptly.

Earlier, TCN had announced scheduled maintenance on its TR3 45MVA and TR2 60MVA power transformers in the 132/33kV Okene Transmission Substation from Tuesday, March 19, to Wednesday, March 20, between 10 am to 03 pm each day.

Due to this maintenance, Abuja DisCo would be unable to supply power from the substation to its customers in Okene, Kabba, Ososo, and Ikare during the maintenance period.

Ndidi Mbah, the TCN spokesperson, stated, “Kindly note that bulk power supply will be restored to Abuja DisCo immediately after maintenance work is completed.”

The AEDC advises affected customers to bear with the inconvenience and assures them of swift resolution once maintenance is concluded.
