Authorities in lagos arrested 63 people for crossing the highway and selling on the street illegally.

The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps apprehended 63 individuals on Tuesday, March 19, for allegedly crossing highways and participating in illegal street trading.

In February, the state government had issued a warning to apprehend and prosecute individuals crossing the major highways instead of using designated pedestrian crossings.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, announced the arrests via his verified social media handle on Monday, stating that the suspects had been promptly charged in court in accordance with the state’s environmental management law.

He stated, “Earlier today, operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (@LAGESCOfficial) arrested 63 individuals for crossing highways and engaging in illegal street trading.

“They have been brought to court for trial as per the provisions of the Lagos State Environmental Management Law 2017.”

The ministry has also recently escalated its efforts to combat street trading and remove roadside traders.
