Ciroma, the former president of the NLC, is dead

Former Nigeria Labour Congress President Ali Ciroma has passed away at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The announcement was made by a family member, Ali Ibrahim Ciroma, who is also the Secretary of the Borno State Council, Nigeria Union of Journalists.

Ciroma served as NLC president from 1984 to 1988 during the Ibrahim Babagida military regime.

Recently, Ciroma, along with other veteran unionists, called for the resignation of the embattled National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, amidst the party’s crisis.

The burial is scheduled for the next day at Ciroma’s residence in Maiduguri.
