Two lives lost in Ogun road accident.

Two individuals lost their lives, and three others sustained injuries in an accident that occurred around 8:24 pm after Ogbere Junction along the Ijebu-Ode-Ore-Benin Expressway. The deceased were reportedly trapped inside one of the vehicles involved in the crash. The accident, attributed to route violation and excessive speed, involved a DAF truck with number plate AYE886ZQ and a Volvo truck with number plate MUS246YH. Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, disclosed this in a statement provided to journalists on Saturday.

Okpe reported that the three injured victims have been transported to General Hospital, Ijebu Ode, and one of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital’s morgue. The second deceased individual was handed over to their family for burial.

The statement indicated, “FRSC Ogbere Outpost Command conducted a rescue operation late last night on Ijebu Ode-Ore Expressway after Ogbere Junction, following a crash at about 8:34 pm.”

The collision involved a DAF truck (AYE886ZQ) and a Volvo truck (MUS246YH), resulting in five male adults being affected.

Three sustained injuries, while the other two were tragically trapped inside one of the vehicles. The injured were promptly taken to State General Hospital, Ijebu Ode, and one deceased was handed over to their family, while the other was placed in the General Hospital morgue in Ijebu-Ode.

The crash was attributed to route and speed violations. As a precautionary measure due to the expressway obstruction, traffic was diverted temporarily from inward Benin to outward to avert further incidents or secondary crashes.

Sector Commander Anthony Uga expressed sorrow over the incident, highlighting the peril of excessive speeding, a leading human factor in fatal crashes. Uga stressed the criticality of adhering to speed limits to uphold road safety.

He revealed that the corps marshal has mandated the installation of speed limit devices in all commercial vehicles to reduce frequent road accidents.

Uga has urged motorists to adhere to speed limits and heed road signs to prevent the daily loss of lives on Nigerian roads.
