On Friday, February 23, two suspects were presented before the Kaima High Court in Yenagoa, facing charges of alleged conspiracy and attempted kidnapping of Mr. Ebi Ayama, also known as Americana, the brother of Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri.

The arrested individuals, identified as Lucky Oghenebrume, aged 53, and Omobowho Okpowodo, aged 52, were apprehended by members of the Operation Puff Adder unit in November 2023 in Mbiama community, Rivers State, following extensive intelligence gathering and investigations.

During their court appearance, the defendants entered pleas of not guilty. Nevertheless, a police prosecutor informed the court that Oghenebrume was identified as the mastermind and was included in the State Police Command’s wanted list for his alleged role in the abduction of an individual named Fyneman in the Sagbama area of the state.

It was reported that a ransom of N50 million was paid in connection with this incident.

Additionally, it was reported that he had relocated his family to Delta State to evade detection.

The police prosecutor also disclosed that the second suspect, Omobowho Okpowodo, was identified as the proprietor of the motor mechanic workshop where the intended victim frequented for vehicle repairs.

Allegedly, Okpowodo was overheard scheming to abduct Ayama as he traveled from Ekeremor Local Government Area.

The presiding Judge, Justice Timipre Songi, has adjourned the case until February 27.
