Tragedy struck on Friday along the Akungba-Ikare Road in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, claiming the lives of three individuals.
The accident involved a Toyota Camry (with number plate LND 592 GX) and two commercial buses.
According to an eyewitness, the driver of the car inadvertently struck a motorcycle, causing the victims to fall onto the road where they were subsequently run over by another vehicle. The victims tragically lost their lives on the spot.
Following the incident, the driver of the car fled the scene out of fear of retaliation, while local youths set the vehicle ablaze.
Mr. Ezekiel Son’Allah, the Ondo Sector Commander of the Road Safety Commission, confirmed the accident, attributing it to wrongful overtaking and route violation by the vehicles involved.
He stated, “Three persons lost their lives in the incident.”
The victims were promptly taken to Aduloju Hospital Akungba by the police. Son’Allah urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations and suggested the installation of speed breakers on the road to prevent future accidents.
