Lagos Gov’t Might Close Indian School for Only Accepting Indian Students.

The Lagos State Government has issued a warning to an Indian Language School in Ilupeju for only admitting Indian nationals, prompting calls from Nigerians for investigation and potential closure of the school.

This concern arises in the aftermath of the Abuja Chinese supermarket incident, where Nigerians were denied entry.

The state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, stated during a Ministerial Briefing that appropriate action would be taken pending investigation results.

Alli-Balogun emphasized that denying admission to any child contradicts the Child Rights Act domesticated by Lagos State.

He disclosed that 12 private schools have been shut down in the state for various infractions since 2023, with four schools closed in January 2024 for safety violations and illegal operations.

The closure process occurs during school recess to minimize academic disruption, following school profiling and commissioner approval.
