In the early hours of Wednesday, November 1, a group of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) agents conducted a raid on student dormitories located in Oduduwa Estate near Osun State’s Obafemi Awolowo University. During the operation, an unspecified number of students were apprehended, and this forceful invasion of the hostels was confirmed by eyewitnesses residing in the same premises.

“When they came to my room, they asked me to switch on the light, asked for my man and checked the toilet and kitchen, then left. They came back and asked me to switch off my phone then left again, “The student confirmed.

The acting Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the institution, identified only as Adegboyega, while addressing the press, verified the incursion into the students’ hostels and the subsequent student arrests.

SaharaReporters gathered that phone calls were placed to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Mooro Police Station.

The DPO, upon confirmation, clarified that the incident was not a robbery as initially rumored but, in fact, an operation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The DPO confirmed to the acting CSO that his officers were present in the troubled area at the time the EFCC carried out the arrests.

Continuing his statement, he expressed the anticipation that the affected students would make their way to the institution’s security office to file a formal complaint. Subsequently, the police would determine their course of action.

In the meantime, students and alumni of the university have utilized social media, particularly the X platform, to voice their strong disapproval of the occurrence.

The Students’ Union has likewise issued a tweet condemning the recent unwarranted arrests and harassment of students by EFCC members during the early hours of the day.
