Impeachment Scheme: PDP Governors Set to Hold a Meeting With Wike Today.

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Today (Wednesday), PDP state governors are convening a meeting with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, to discuss the evolving political scenario in his native state, amid growing efforts to oust Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

The statement, announcing this development, was issued by CID Maduabum, the Director General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, after the Forum’s Tuesday meeting.

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who serves as the Forum’s Chairman, will lead approximately 10 fellow party governors to meet with the FCT minister at his office. The scheduled time for the meeting is 10:45 am.

“Following the decision reached at the PDP Governors Forum meeting on Tuesday, 31st October, to visit the FCT Minister, for reconciliation and mediation purposes, the Chairman of the Forum H.E Governor Bala Mohammed, CON, hereby requests member Governors to converge at his residence, No 1 Miriam Aloma Muktar Street, Asokoro, opposite Rivers State Governors Lodge at 10.45 am to accompany him for the visit,” the statement read.

Having convened on Tuesday, the Forum implored the key political figures in the affluent South-South state to lay down their arms and facilitate a peaceful resolution to the crisis.

In attendance were the following individuals: Governor Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Governor Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Governor Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Governor Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Governor Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Governor Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Governor Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Governor Kefas Agbu (Taraba), Governor Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Governor Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), and Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai (Enugu).

During the meeting, the PDP governors expressed their appreciation for President Bola Tinubu’s involvement. He met with Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, at the Aso Villa in Abuja on Tuesday afternoon to mediate in the crisis.

The President’s meeting with these two PDP politicians followed the initiation of impeachment proceedings against Fubara by the Rivers State House of Assembly on Monday. The allegations against the governor pertain to actions considered gross misconduct and unbecoming of his office.

The Assembly Complex turned into a chaotic scene when a fire engulfed a section on Sunday night, leading to dramatic events on Monday morning as principal officers were removed amidst gunfire.

On Monday, Fubara visited the Complex to assess the extent of the damage, alleging that he had been shot at by the police. The police authorities announced that they were investigating this allegation.

Simultaneously, some leaders from Rivers State met with the FCT minister on Tuesday to address the issue. Additionally, the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) has urged all parties involved in the dispute within the state to put aside their differences and work towards a peaceful and harmonious resolution of the crisis.
