The arrest of the LG Chairman and an accomplice on charges of plotting the attempted assassination of Benue Speaker has been reported.

The Nigeria Police Force has apprehended two individuals, including the Chairman of Gboko Local Government Area, Mr. Abraham Agber, in connection with an alleged conspiracy to assassinate Mr. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh, the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly. The suspects were taken into custody following preliminary investigations, during which it was revealed that the local government chairman had reportedly hired a militia with the intent of causing harm to Speaker Dajoh.

According to reports from Vanguard, Mr. Agber was reportedly taken to Abuja by security operatives. The Force Headquarters disclosed these developments in a statement on Monday, January 22, through the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

Adejobi stated, “The Nigeria Police Force, through the dedicated efforts of its operatives, has successfully apprehended two suspects involved in an alleged assassination plot. The arrested individuals include the chairman of a Local Government Area in Benue State.”

He further explained that the preliminary investigation indicated that the local government chairman had allegedly engaged a militia group with the malicious intention of eliminating Speaker Aondona Dajoh. The Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team swiftly took action upon receiving credible intelligence regarding the planned assassination.

The arrested suspects are currently in police custody and are actively cooperating with investigators as the inquiry progresses. Adejobi emphasized the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens and public officials. He reassured the public that the arrested suspects would face the full legal consequences, underscoring the police force’s dedication to maintaining law and order and preventing crimes at all levels.
