The Supreme Court has ruled against the petition submitted by Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour party, challenging Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 presidential election.

Within his petition, Peter Obi asserted that Vice-President Kashim Shettima had been charged with double nomination, thus rendering him ineligible to assume the role of President Bola Tinubu’s running mate.

“This matter ought not to have come here. When the matter was pending at the trial court, this court delivered judgement on it. This appeal lacks merit and is hereby dismissed,” the court ruled.

Justice Okoro determined that the concerns raised in points 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7 had already been addressed in the recent decisions made during Atiku’s appeal.

“It is our decision that this appeal shall abide with the decision in that of Atiku,” the court held.

The complete panel of judges, consisting of seven members, reached a unanimous decision that Peter Obi’s petition lacked legal validity. Subsequently, the court confirmed President Tinubu’s election.
