Supreme Court Rejects Atiku’s Bid to Present New Evidence from CSU Against Tinubu.

PDD Presidential Candidate Atiku and President Bola Tinubu

The Supreme Court rejected Atiku Abubakar’s request to introduce new evidence in his appeal against President Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Atiku’s request was rejected due to the court’s lack of jurisdiction.

The Supreme Court characterized Atiku’s petition as a frivolous matter and ruled that it could not be entertained. The court determined that the case was filed after the prescribed deadline and failed to establish a case of forgery. It’s worth noting that Atiku had attempted to submit new evidence related to allegations of forgery against Tinubu.

He implored the Supreme Court to examine the issue due to its constitutional and democratic significance. Atiku had intended to present newly obtained academic records from Chicago State University (CSU), dated October 2, as the fresh evidence.

The former Vice President had asserted that this new evidence was pivotal to his appeal and that the court possessed the inherent authority to consider and rule on the application.

Nevertheless, the Supreme Court, citing the expiration of the constitutionally prescribed time limit, stated that it lacked the jurisdiction to admit the new evidence. The judgment is currently in progress.
