Women who invaded the command headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa, demanding the resignation of the State Commissioner of Police, Tolani Alausa, have been dispersed by command operatives.

Female protesters requested on Friday that Alausa be replaced before the off-cycle governorship election on Saturday in order to maintain impartiality.

The women, clothed in black, demanded that President Bola Tinubu and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun remove the CP to ensure a peaceful election.

The women’s refusal to leave the facility if their demands were not met resulted in their dispersal with tear gas.

Soon later, another group of protesters reached the command centre to voice their support for the CP.

The women began their protest at the police command headquarters on Thursday and continued it on Friday.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Ofem Arikpo, the CP cannot be removed because he has not committed any laws.

On November 7, Alausa was appointed as the 36th Commissioner of Police of the state.

According to reports, the call for the CP’s removal comes as opposition parties in Imo state continue to press for the resignation of the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Sylva Agu.
