NSC clarifies: Bobrisky does not reside in a one-bedroom flat.

In a statement obtained by Punch Online on Saturday, the NCoS, through its spokesperson Rotimi Oladokun, refuted the claims. Oladokun clarified that Bobrisky shared a cell with other inmates and emphasized that there were no individual or ‘one-bedroom flat’ style cells in the Custodial Centre.

He further explained that the cell block infrastructure was designed as shared buildings to accommodate multiple inmates.

The Nigerian Correctional Service Lagos State Command issued a statement addressing misleading online publications.

The statement clarified that Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, also known as Bobrisky, is currently serving a 6-month jail term for abusing and mutilating the Naira note within the Custodial Centre.

It emphasized that Idris, like all inmates, has access to reformative and rehabilitative platforms, including educational and vocational training.

Additionally, the statement highlighted that Idris shares a cell with other convicted inmates, as there are no individual or ‘one-bedroom flat’ style cells in the Custodial Centre.

The cell blocks infrastructure is designed as shared buildings to accommodate multiple inmates.

Oladokun also affirmed that the convict was housed in a male Custodial Centre and adhered to all regulations and dress code guidelines.

Bobrisky wore correctional clothing designated for male convicted inmates, receiving no special privileges or amenities.

Family and legal visits, which are standard for all inmates, were also granted and regulated by the NCoS. The Controller of Corrections, Lagos Command, urged the public to dismiss the false publication.

An anonymous source within the correctional center corroborated this, confirming Bobrisky’s equal treatment. The source disclosed that Bobrisky underwent a thorough examination upon admission, revealing no gender realignment or changes in genital organs.

Bobrisky’s legal issues stemmed from an arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on April 3, 2024, following a video report of him spraying new naira notes at a movie premiere in Lagos.

He pleaded guilty to charges of naira abuse in a Federal High Court on April 5, 2024. The charges included four counts of naira abuse and two counts of alleged money laundering filed by the EFCC.

Prior to presenting the charges, the EFCC prosecutor moved to dismiss counts five and six.

Bobrisky then pleaded guilty to the four counts of naira abuse. In a plea for leniency before his conviction, he expressed remorse and claimed ignorance of the laws regarding naira abuse. He promised to use his social media platform to educate his followers on the matter.
