Police in Delta State have arrested Ernest Okemute, 32, for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, Precious Ekarume, in the Orokpor community of Ughelli North Local Government Area.
Nigerian activist Kelvin Ejumudo, who confirmed the incident on Facebook, claimed that Okemute beat Ekarume with a belt and stick because she refused to abort her pregnancy for him.
Ejumudo stated that Okemute even boasted that he wouldn’t face consequences even if he killed her. The victim sought help from community leaders and Ejumudo, who collaborated with the Area Commander of Ughelli Nigeria Police Force, ACP ADEMOLA ADEBAYOR, leading to Okemute’s arrest.
He is currently in police custody and will soon face charges under Delta State’s Violence Against Persons Act of 2022.
