Over the weekend, a tragic incident unfolded in Tse-Agubor Gyaruwa of Tsambee-Mbesev Council Ward, Gwer West LGA, Benue State, as approximately 50 houses were engulfed in flames, resulting in the unfortunate death of an 80-year-old woman. According to Chief Ayatse Agubor, the Village Head, the fire ignited around 10 am when villagers were away on their farms. He shared that his elderly mother, a victim of the fire, was unable to find assistance due to her condition and attributed the fire to bush burning.

Hajia Kongo, a resident who suffered substantial losses including over 10 bags of maize, soya beans, clothes, and N110,000 concealed in the bags, appealed to compassionate individuals and the government for support.

In response to the incident, Henry Agba, the caretaker Chairman of Gwer West LGA, expressed the council’s intolerance for bush burning in the area. He announced plans to dispatch a team to assess the extent of the destruction, facilitating a comprehensive report to the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
