The Rivers State Police Command apprehended 26-year-old Sarah Nwankpo for fatally stabbing her lover, Igbodike Anthony, during a dispute over sexual matters, as reported by Vanguard. The incident unfolded in Anthony’s residence in the Obiri-Ikwerre area of Port Harcourt on December 22, 2023.

Nwankpo, originally from Ezza South LGA of Ebonyi State, reportedly visited Anthony on the day of the incident, having left her boyfriend’s apartment in Aluu. She explained that she had been receiving invitations and financial assistance from Anthony despite being in a relationship with Joe Ibanga.

In her account, Nwankpo described a series of events that led to the fatal encounter. Anthony, offering marriage and a prosperous life, also proposed a managerial job in his company in January 2024. However, her interest waned, and she decided to leave Anthony’s house on the fateful evening.

A disagreement arose when Anthony insisted on intimacy, leading to a physical altercation. Nwankpo, feeling threatened, grabbed a detachable head from a walking cane, revealing a hidden dagger. In self-defense, she stabbed Anthony as he charged at her.

According to Vanguard, Anthony’s attempt to prevent Nwankpo from leaving the scene was thwarted by the building owner and his children, who raised an alarm. The police were alerted, and Nwankpo was taken into custody around 1 am on December 23, 2023, while Anthony succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, emphasized the tragic consequences of violence and urged the public to exercise caution in their relationships. The investigation into the case is ongoing, as confirmed by the CP.
