A gas explosion rocked Alaba Lane, Alayabiagba Community, in the Ajegunle-Apapa area of Lagos State, leaving a pregnant woman and eight others injured.
According to Amodu Shakiru, Head of Public Education at the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the incident occurred around 12:39 p.m. on Tuesday.
Preliminary findings suggest that a gas cylinder, among several traded in the area, ignited due to a possible leak, causing a fire that broke a high-tension cable.
The ensuing blaze destroyed four commercial tricycles, six lock-up stores, and a portion of a bungalow building.
Swift response from the Federal Fire Service, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and local fire stations in Ajegunle and Sari-Iganmu contained the situation.
The injured, including the pregnant woman, are receiving treatment at the Gbagada Burn & Trauma Center and Ajeromi General Hospital. Nine individuals, including children and adults, suffered varying degrees of burns.
Efforts from the Ajegunle and Sari-Iganmu Fire Stations of the LSFRS, along with support from the Federal Fire Service, aided in curtailing the incident swiftly.
This incident follows a recent fire outbreak in Dosumu Market on Lagos Island, where at least 14 buildings were gutted by flames.
