FG Enrolls 2 Million Almajiri Children in Schools within 6 Months

On Tuesday, April 2, the Federal Government announced the successful removal of 2 million Almajiri children from the streets and their enrollment in schools for basic education and vocational training.

Minister of Education, Prof.

Tahir Mamman, made this declaration during the inaugural quarterly Citizens and Stakeholders Engagement on Nigerian Education Sector Ministerial deliverables.

Mamman highlighted that one of the primary focuses of the current administration was the reduction of out-of-school children in Nigeria.

He mentioned that 2,000,000 out-of-school children, particularly Almajiri, were enrolled in basic education along with an Arabic literacy program complemented by vocational training.

Additionally, guidelines and training manuals for the implementation of inclusive basic education in Nigeria were developed.

These initiatives have led to increased access, enrollment, and retention in basic, secondary, and tertiary education levels.

Moreover, the Minister disclosed that within the last six months, 70,674 teachers and non-teaching staff from various academic and non-academic training institutes received training.

Furthermore, 2,122 students were granted Nigerian scholarship awards, while 2,889 students studying abroad benefited from bursary awards and other scholarships.
