Emefiele’s Case Adjourned to January 18th by Court.

Former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele.


The trial concerning the alleged procurement fraud involving former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has been adjourned by the Federal Capital Territory High Court to January 18, 2024.

Emefiele is accused of utilizing his position to bestow a corrupt advantage upon Sa’adatu Yaro, a CBN staff member, through the award of a contract for the procurement of 43 vehicles amounting to N1.2 billion between 2018 and 2020.

Following his remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre, Justice Hamza Muazu granted Emefiele bail in the sum of N300 million on November 22, pending further proceedings.


He further specified that the ex-CBN governor is required to present two sureties with equal amounts.

The judge highlighted that the sureties must possess certificates of occupancy and titles for properties located within the Maitama district in Abuja.

As of now, Emefiele has not fulfilled the conditions for his bail, and he was escorted to and from the court by armed personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
