Emefiele is handed over to the EFCC by the DSS for ongoing questioning.

Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was released from DSS custody on the night of October 26.

Shortly after his release, EFCC operatives took him into their custody. The Cable has reported that he was taken in for further questioning, and there are indications that new charges may be brought against him.

Emefiele had been held by the Department of State Services (DSS) since June, following his suspension from office by President Bola Tinubu.

He was subsequently instructed to transfer his responsibilities to Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, who was then the deputy governor of the operations directorate at the apex bank.

The following day, the DSS revealed that Emefiele was under their custody for “investigative purposes.”

On July 25, he was brought before a federal high court in Lagos and faced a two-count charge related to the “unlawful possession” of firearms. He was subsequently granted bail in the amount of N20 million.

On August 17, the federal government withdrew the initial two-count charge, leading to its dismissal.

Nevertheless, a new 20-count charge was brought against him, alleging involvement in a conspiracy to commit procurement fraud and other offenses.
