Eight individuals have tragically lost their lives in a road accident in Benue.

A fatal motor accident claimed the lives of at least 8 individuals at Ngibo village along the Kastina-Ala – Zakibiam road in Benue State. \

According to witnesses, the accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, February 20, when two cars, each carrying passengers from opposite directions, collided head-on.

Witnesses reported that sympathizers and security agents removed the mangled bodies of the occupants trapped in both vehicles.

An anonymous resident in the area stated that there were 12 individuals involved in the accident.

Eight fatalities occurred at the scene, while four others who were taken to the hospital succumbed to their injuries by Wednesday.

“The resident mentioned that the vehicle involved, a commercial golf car, carried nine passengers, while the private Nissan vehicle had three passengers.

Unfortunately, the four individuals who sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital on Tuesday have since passed away, increasing the total death toll to 12,” the resident stated.

However, on Wednesday, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Benue State, Steve Ayodele, reported that the accident occurred at 12:32 pm on Tuesday along the Kastina-Ala-Zakibiam road at Ngibo village, involving only 10 persons.

Ayodele attributed the cause of the accident to over speeding, noting that one of the vehicles attempted to avoid a pothole, which led to the collision.

“The accident involved two vehicles and was of a fatal nature. A total of 10 individuals were involved, comprising four female adults, five male adults, and one female child.

Tragically, eight people lost their lives in the incident,” he explained.

“The fatalities included four female adults, three male adults, and one female child.

Two individuals sustained injuries and were promptly transported to Kastina-Ala General Hospital for medical attention.

“It was a head-on collision; one of the vehicles attempted to evade a pothole and collided with an oncoming vehicle,” clarified the FRSC commander.
