According to NCS officials, Bobrisky was treated no differently than any other inmate

Controversial figure Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, received a six-month prison sentence for currency abuse and now shares a cell with male inmates at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre.

Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos delivered the verdict on Friday, April 12, 2024, emphasizing its deterrent effect on others engaged in similar offenses.

Following the judgment, Bobrisky was admitted to the Custodial Centre and reportedly treated on par with other inmates.

A senior official at the facility, speaking anonymously due to protocol, mentioned that Bobrisky underwent standard admission procedures upon arrival.

The official stated that during the examination, it was confirmed that the convict, Bobrisky, did not undergo any gender realignment or genital organ alteration.

The source explained, “Bobrisky publicly identified as male, and court proceedings are a matter of public record. During admission to the facility, every inmate undergoes examination.

Bobrisky underwent the same process, revealing no alteration in gender or genital organs; his male biological features remained unchanged.” The source further added, “Following the examination, Bobrisky was assigned a cell and housed with other inmates.

He was provided with a bed space and personal belongings, akin to arrangements in a boarding house.”

The source highlighted that the convicted crossdresser has been abiding by the rules and routines of the facility. “He attends classes, retrieves his meals, participates in prep sessions, and adheres to lights-out schedules without favoritism. Since his arrival, he has conducted himself like any other inmate.” Addressing claims of protection from abuse, the official stressed that the facility strictly prohibits any form of mistreatment by fellow inmates.

“Bobrisky receives no special treatment and is subject to the same rules and regulations as everyone else.

Isolation cells are utilized to prevent the spread of communicable diseases, not to provide preferential treatment. Homosexuality is strictly prohibited in the male prison, and any attempts to harm him will be met with legal consequences

.” When approached for comment, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Command of the NCS, Rotimi Oladokun, declined to provide a statement, stating, “I have no comment.”
