In a recent incident, the Benue Police Command has terminated Constable Belasa Iyangedue for s3xually assaulting a 16-year-old girl, Nguemo Terkaa, while she was in police custody.

On Tuesday, October 3, in Makurdi, Commissioner of Police Bartholomew Onyeka officially verified the incident.

The constable who was dismissed faced allegations of committing the crime at Tse Agbaragba Divisional Police Station, Konshisha LGA.

The victim had been held at the station since August 15 due to a defamation offense. While in custody, Constable Iyangedue purportedly removed her from her cell at night and assaulted her in one of the offices.

The victim reported the incident to the Divisional Police officer after her release on bail, leading to the constable’s arrest.

Commissioner Onyeka emphasized that such actions were unacceptable within the police force and stated, “The police is a disciplined organ, and being the statutory organ responsible for crime and fighting crime and management, such people are not allowed to stay in the system.

He was not only dismissed; he is facing prosecution.”

This incident, unfortunately, occurred less than a year after Iyangedue was celebrated on social media following his passing out parade, marking the end of his training to join the police force.
