A man broke his erect penis and disfigured it while rolling in his sleep, leading to surgery

A 27-year-old man from Tunisia had to undergo emergency surgery after fracturing his penis in two places while sleeping, resulting in an ‘eggplant’ deformity.

According to a case study published in the International Surgery of Case Reports, the man reportedly rolled over onto his erect penis, causing an audible ‘snap’ sound and intense pain.

Despite the severity of the injury, the patient waited 36 hours before seeking medical attention.

noted significant swelling, a deviation to the right, and a blood clot at the base of the penis upon examination.

The characteristic “eggplant deformity,” where the penis swells and turns purple like an eggplant, indicated a fracture or break.

Although the penis doesn’t contain bones, a “fracture” refers to a tear in the tunica albuginea, the tissue responsible for penile enlargement and erection.

Under general anesthesia, surgeons “degloved” the penis, revealing two fractures measuring 7 millimeters and 10 millimeters, respectively.

Sustaining multiple breaks is uncommon in medical practice. Fortunately, medics successfully repaired the man’s member, suturing the lacerations before discharging him from the hospital.

By the second day, the swelling had notably decreased, and by the fourth day, he had regained “full erectile function.

” Fortunately, the patient did not experience any long-term issues with urination or sexual function following the incident.

Medics noted that during a 12-month follow-up period, the patient did not report any complications.
