A 60 years old man, his son, along with another person, died trying to retrieve a phone from a pit toilet.

Malam Danjuma, nicknamed “Black,” aged 60, along with his 35-year-old son, Ibrahim, and another individual named Aminu Gaye, also 35, tragically died in a pit toilet while attempting to retrieve a cellphone.

Saminu Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer of Kano State Fire Service, confirmed the incident on Sunday, April 21.

At approximately 11:00 a.m., the Tsanyawa Fire Station alerted the service of an emergency call reporting four men trapped inside a pit toilet.

The spokesperson stated that Danjuma became trapped while attempting to retrieve a cellphone that had fallen into the pit toilet.


Following this, his son attempted to rescue his father but also became trapped in the pit toilet. Gaye and Alasan then entered to assist, but they too became trapped.

Abdullahi mentioned that the first three victims were rescued unconscious, while the fourth was rescued alive.

Subsequently, all victims were transferred to Superintendent of Police Iro Lado at the Tsanyawa police division.

Abdullahi added that the police transported the victims to Bichi Special Hospital for medical treatment, where doctors confirmed three fatalities and one survivor.
