50 Kaduna shops selling cooking oil in filthy conditions have been sealed by NAFDAC.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has closed 50 outlets in Kaduna State for selling edible oil in unhygienic conditions.

This action was taken during a sensitization workshop for dealers focusing on Registration Procedures and Food Management.

According to a statement on NAFDAC’s official handle, the sealing of these outlets aims to prevent potential health risks associated with contaminated edible oil.

Mrs. Josephine Dayilim, the Director of the North-West Zonal Office, highlighted the dangers of consuming oil processed in unsanitary environments, emphasizing the risks of food poisoning, gastroenteritis, and cancer due to inadequate processing and corrosive equipment.

Dayilim stressed the importance of using food-grade materials and maintaining hygienic production environments to ensure consumer safety.

In a related development reported by PUNCH in February, NAFDAC raided and sealed over 1,321 patent medicine stores in Kano’s Sabon Gari open market as part of efforts to sanitize unwholesome pharmaceutical practices.
