A tragic incident occurred in Ondo State, where a middle-aged woman named Mrs. Bose Odunayo took her own life reportedly due to distress related to her husband’s extramarital affair.
The incident reportedly took place in the Igoba area of Akure, the capital city of Ondo State.
As reported by the state-owned newspaper, the mother of four allegedly consumed herbicide following a threatening phone call from one of her husband’s mistresses, who asserted she was pregnant with his child.
It was learnt that drama ensued when the victim’s family suddenly brought her corpse from Akoko for burial at her husband’s residence in Akure, where rituals were performed before the corpse was later buried.
A source revealed that the deceased, after consuming the substance at her residence in Igoba area of Akure, urgently traveled to her hometown in Ifira Akoko. There, she informed her parents about her fears that her husband’s womanizing ways would lead to her premature demise.
According to a family insider, before her passing, the deceased confided in her family that her husband’s mistress had falsely accused her of causing a miscarriage.
Another close source disclosed that back in 2021, the woman had made a previous suicide attempt using the same substance. Fortunately, her husband intervened and rushed her to a private hospital for treatment.
However, this time, luck wasn’t on her side as she ingested the herbicide while her husband was away. The husband, a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Akure, stated that his wife took the substance and traveled to her parents’ town in Akoko. He only learned about her tragic demise later.
He expressed disbelief, mentioning that his late wife falsely claimed she was solely responsible for all household expenses, including the children’s school fees, despite being a full-time homemaker.
