FUTA Student Faces Legal Consequences for Sharing a Naked Video of Former Girlfriend Online.

A 24-year-old Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) student named Irewole Oluwatuyi has been brought before the Akure Magistrate Court on charges related to allegedly sharing explicit content of his ex-girlfriend on the internet.

The police have accused Oluwatuyi of offenses including unauthorized capture, distribution of naked imagery, and assault.

In court, the prosecutor, Simon Wada, presented the case where the defendant, along with others who remain at large, allegedly committed the offense on September 29, 2023, around 1:30 pm in the Aule area of Akure, located within the Akure Magisterial District.

Wada claimed that the defendant conspired to tarnish the reputation of his former girlfriend, Joy Adedeji, by sharing her explicit video on social media, thus subjecting her to humiliation and public ridicule.

Additionally, Wada stated that on the 27th of the same month, the defendant had physically assaulted the victim by striking her with a fist, causing her injury.

These actions, according to Wada, violate Sections 516, 351, and 451 of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2016.

The prosecutor requested an adjournment to allow him time to review the case file.

Magistrate Damilola Sekoni granted the defendant bail in the amount of N500,000, with two sureties required to provide an equal sum.

Sekoni scheduled the next hearing for December 15, 2023.
