The U.S. government has released a terrorism alert for its citizens in Nigeria, cautioning them about “heightened threats” in the “major cities” of the nation, particularly at large hotels.

In an urgent message for American citizens dated November 3, the U.S. government acknowledged the efforts of Nigerian security agencies in countering this threat.

U.S. citizens were advised to maintain caution when visiting prominent hotels, stay aware of their environment, maintain a low profile, and consult the Nigerian travel advisory before making hotel reservations.

“The U.S. Government is aware of credible information that there is an elevated threat to major hotels in Nigeria’s larger cities. The Nigerian security services are working diligently to counter the threat.

“The U.S. Department of State advises U.S. citizens to consider this information when arranging lodging or visiting major hotels in Nigeria,” the information released.
