Union place €20m tag on Boniface

After just a season in the Belgian Pro League with Royale Union Saint-Gilloise Nigerian striker, Victor Boniface’s future seems elsewhere, with the club willing to cash in on their star striker following an impressive debut season.

The 22-year-old joined the Brussels-based team from Bodo Glimt for a club-record fee of €2m at the start of the season and has been in sensational form since then, scoring 19 goals and providing eight assists in all competitions.

The Akure-born forward has been in superb form since moving to Belgium and has caught the attention of several top European clubs with Napoli, AC Milan, Lazio, Union Berlin, Eintracht Frankfurt and several other clubs linked with a move for the Nigerian.

According to a Belgian publication, Voetbalnieuws, Union would consider offers for the 1.89m forward at the end of the season, but are hoping for a fee in the region of €20m.

“That the striker (Boniface) will leave after the season is therefore almost certain,” the website wrote.

“But not before Union passes the cash register. For example, amounts of up to €10m have already been mentioned.

“At SudPresshowever, inquiries were made in real estate circles and there it sounds that Boniface, partly due to his performance in Europe, can raise up to €20m.”

Boniface has been Union’s brightest star in their memorable adventure in Europe this term, with an impressive haul of five goals in eight games in the Europa League and he is one of the reasons they’ve made it so far to the quarter-finals of the competition, where they face Bayern Leverkusen on April 13 in the first leg.
