On Sunday, February 4, at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston, Nigerian athlete Tobi Amusan shattered the African women’s indoor record in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking 7.75 seconds.

This performance marked an improvement from her previous record of 7.77 seconds set in Kazakhstan in January.

Despite securing the new African record, Amusan claimed the second position in Boston, with America’s Tia Jones taking the first spot in 7.72 seconds. Following closely in third place was Bahama’s Devynne Chalton, finishing in 7.76 seconds.

Notably, in her opening race of the new athletic season on January 27, Amusan had already surpassed the African record previously held by her compatriot Gloria Alozie.

In another remarkable performance, Nigerian athlete Favour Ofili impressed in the women’s 300 meters, securing the second position with a time of 35.99 seconds.

The race was won by Gabby Thomas from the US, who set a world-leading time of 35.75 seconds. Lynna Irby-Jackson, also from the US, secured third place with a time of 36.05 seconds.

It’s worth mentioning that Ofili currently holds the African indoor record in the women’s 200 meters, a feat she achieved in March 2023.
