A woman recognized for her extraordinary height, Xiao Mo of Shaoyang, China, passed away at the age of 23. Standing at 7.5 feet tall, she had garnered over 152,000 followers on the video social media platform Douyin. Xiao Mo, also known as “Hunan’s No. 1 Giantess,” was four centimeters taller than NBA star Yao Ming.

Xiao Mo’s popularity on Douyin stemmed from her videos documenting her daily life. Despite her challenges, including a difficult upbringing after being abandoned by her mother and raised by her grandparents, she was known for her kindness and helpful nature, as recalled by a former classmate.

Reportedly facing underlying health conditions related to her extreme height, such as heart and sight issues, Xiao Mo succumbed to complications from a recent cold on January 15. Her passing deeply saddened her followers, with messages expressing condolences and wishing her well in the afterlife.

Xiao Mo’s cremation took place, but her father, with whom she had a strained relationship, is yet to collect her ashes from the crematorium. While some considered Xiao Mo to be the world’s tallest woman, the official record belongs to Rumeysa Gelgi of Turkey, who, at 7.7 feet tall, holds the title according to Guinness World Records. Rumeysa, born with the rare Weaver syndrome, faces medical challenges due to bone overgrowth, including scoliosis.
