The renowned Mile 12 market has been temporarily closed by the Lagos State government.

In a Friday morning announcement, Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, disclosed that the markets were sealed through a collaborative effort involving personnel from the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI).

On Friday, the Lagos State government took the step to close down Mile 12 International Market and Owode Onirin Market located along Ikorodu Road due to their improper disposal and incineration of waste.

The sealing of these markets was revealed by Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab of the Department of Environment and Water Resources during a joint operation involving personnel from the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI).

The Commissioner, who stated that the markets were closed upon his directive, further emphasized their unsanitary conditions. He expressed concern about clogged and littered drainage systems, the problem of unauthorized and disorderly parking, and the abandonment of trucks on the main road, which resulted in traffic congestion.

Under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, there has been a notable trend of market closures and demolitions.

The administration’s recent actions include the closure of well-known markets like Ladipo Auto Parts Market, as well as several others in Mushin and various locations across the state.
