The President criticized Permanent Secretaries for impeding the pace of governance.

Yesterday, February 22, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu engaged in a serious discussion with the leadership of the Federal Civil Service.

During the meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the President expressed concern that the service was hindering the implementation of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He emphasized his shock at the deliberate delays in meeting timelines for approved policies by civil servants.

Attendees at the meeting included the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), the Accountant-General of the Federation, the Auditor-General of the Federation, and federal permanent secretaries.

Stressing the importance of constructive feedback, the President urged civil servants to offer suggestions whenever they harbor reservations about any policy, program, or initiative.

Backed by factual evidence, Tinubu questioned why the civil service was moving at an “abysmally slow” pace in executing his people-oriented programs.

He highlighted specific initiatives such as the N25,000 wage award to workers and the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Initiative (Pi-CNG) as examples of programs being hindered by bureaucratic delays.

The President criticized the civil service’s approach to the reform package aimed at job creation and economic growth.

Among the reform programs are initiatives such as providing a single-digit loan of N1 billion to 75 enterprises, granting N50,000 to each of 1,300 Nano businesses, allocating N75 billion to support 100,000 businesses and startups, and investing N100 billion in gas-powered buses for mass transit.

However, the President lamented that these reforms have yet to be implemented by the civil service.
