Following a meeting at the Government House, Uyo, where Governor Umo Eno intervened to address concerns raised by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the planned industrial action in Akwa Ibom State has been suspended.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Umo Eno, Mr. Ekerete Udoh on Wednesday, Feb. 7.

It was revealed that the governor met with a cross-section of Labour leaders from Akwa Ibom State University and pledged to address various issues, including the payment of the 13th month salary bonus, three months palliative, and the construction of strategic roads within the main campus at Ikot Akpaden.

Governor Eno urged the Labour leaders to collaborate closely with the government to deliver developmental benefits to the people of Akwa Ibom State, emphasizing the significance of the University as a source of pride for the State. Led by Comrade (Elder) Sunny James, the Chairperson of the Nigerian Labour Congres, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, and Dr. Inyang Udosen, the Chairperson of ASUU, AKSU chapter, the ASUU leaders commended the Governor for his “labour-friendly” approach and affirmed that the planned strike would be called off.

They expressed gratitude to the governor for his commitment to addressing the contentious issues and stated their decision to halt the planned strike in light of the governor’s willingness to engage on the matters at hand.
