The Jigawa state government has allocated ₦500 million for the enhancement of restroom facilities in schools, hospitals, markets, and motor parks throughout the state.

The statement was made by Alhaji Ibrahim Hannungiwa, the Commissioner for Water Resources, on Wednesday in Dutse. He emphasized that the government has taken proactive steps to maintain its status as an Open Defecation Free (ODF) state and is committed to surpassing the national ODF target by 2025. Hannungiwa attributed this achievement to the diligent execution of effective policies and programs in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and the United Nations Children’s Fund.

Under this committee, more standard public convinces would be provided at public places and along highways in the state.

“The state government has done a lot in the area of public enlightenment on the importance of using toilets, especially in rural communities.

“Jigawa state is the first and the only state so far declared Open Defecation Free in the country by the UNICEF,” he mentioned, that the UN Agency designated the state governor, Umar Namadi, as an ODF Ambassador.

He mentioned that the governor is anticipated to present a paper on Nigeria’s efforts in combatting ODF during an upcoming conference scheduled to take place in Canada.
