During a conference on Public Wealth Management held in Abuja on Tuesday, February 20, Vice President Kashim Shettima revealed that the Federal Government has identified 32 routes used for smuggling food items out of Nigeria.

He disclosed that on the night of Sunday, February 18, authorities intercepted 45 trucks loaded with maize destined for neighboring countries. Shettima emphasized the impact of such interceptions, stating that maize prices dropped by N10,000 from N60,000 to N50,000.

He expressed concern over forces undermining the nation but urged unity among citizens. Despite acknowledging Nigeria’s current challenges, Shettima assured the public that the difficult times will not last indefinitely.

He also condemned actions fueling division and violence amid the nation’s circumstances.

“We must prioritize the effective functioning of our nation and transcend partisan politics,” Shettima emphasized.

“At present, governance is our foremost concern. Regrettably, some individuals remain entrenched in political agendas, promoting violence and suggesting Nigeria’s path mirrors that of Lebanon.

However, Nigeria’s strength surpasses any individual among us. It will endure through these challenges. There are entities determined to instigate chaos within our borders.

Those unable to attain power through democratic means, instead of waiting until 2027, display desperation,” he remarked.
