After enduring 11 days in captivity, Professor Godwin Emezue, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of Abia State University, has been freed.

He was abducted by unknown assailants at a filling station in Umuahia, the state capital, two weeks ago.

Following a ransom payment, he was released on Tuesday night, February 6, and is presently undergoing medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital due to the torture he endured.

Initially demanding N35 million, the kidnappers later reduced their ransom demand to N20 million.

They released a video showing their brutal treatment of the professor and threatened to end his life if the ransom wasn’t paid by the end of last Saturday, according to a close source.
