Team Nasarawa eye Top 10 spot in Asaba

Nasarawa State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Lucky Yargwa, has vowed that the state’s contingent at the ongoing 21st National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State will end the sports fiesta in top spot.

Yargwa, while briefing journalists covering the championship on Saturday evening at the Media Centre of the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, said the state’s target was to end up in the Top 10 positions on the medals table.

“Nasarawa State is participating in 27 sporting events. In all of these sports, we are very confident of surpassing our previous medals records. So far, our team has won three medals: one silver from Para-table tennis and two bronze from taekwondo,” Yargwa said.

“Some of our athletes are already in the medal stage in some sports, and we should have more medals in our cabin. There are many other sporting events we are yet to commence but I want to assure you that before the end of the festival, Team Nasarawa will be among the Top 10 medal-winning states.”

He applauded the organisers of the festival and Delta State for a job well done.

“The facilities are wonderful. The coordination is welcoming, and the hostel accommodation, especially for my contingent members, is excellent.”
