Sanwo-Olu addresses the demolition of buildings, emphasizing that ethnicity and religion are not taken into consideration.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has clarified that ethnicity and religion played no role in the recent demolition of buildings in the state.

Sanwo-Olu emphasized that only structures that violate state laws are subject to demolition.

During a live media chat, ‘Sanwo Speaks’, the governor emphasized that the demolition of buildings in the state is devoid of any ethnic or religious bias.

He stated,

“We solely remove structures that violate the State’s building and development laws.

The ethnic or religious background of offenders is not a factor in our enforcement. Upholding the laws is paramount; our goal is to revitalize the city.”

This clarification comes amidst accusations against Sanwo-Olu’s administration for targeting and demolishing markets and buildings predominantly inhabited by Igbo residents in the state.

The governor has been accused of pursuing a vendetta due to the voting pattern of Igbo residents supporting the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, during the previous election.
