Several sections of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State have been closed by the Federal Government.

For the upcoming fortnight, motorists will face restrictions on the access ramps leading to Adekunle and Ebute Meta.

At approximately 9 a.m. this Monday, the contractor China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) closed off two access ramps heading towards Adekunle.

The main deck of the 11.8km bridge remains accessible to traffic. Simultaneously, the closed sections are expected to undergo two weeks of work, followed by an additional three weeks of maintenance for the other two ramps – one heading to Oworonshoki and the other towards Lagos Island.

Motorists are advised to consider alternative routes, such as Ikorodu Road, Murtala Mohammed Way, Ojota, and Gbagada.

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Olukorede Kesha, stated that the closure of the ramp on the Third Mainland Bridge is for a comprehensive repair period lasting two weeks.

During his most recent inspection tour of federal infrastructure in Lagos, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, assured that the entire length of the bridge would receive a complete resurfacing while causing minimal inconvenience to road users. The repairs are scheduled to be conducted overnight over the weekend.

The Third Mainland Bridge, one of the country’s busiest, previously underwent a series of repairs between Friday, July 24, 2020, and January 24, 2021. This earlier repair effort involved the replacement of bearings and worn-out expansion joints.
